The answer should be a, if only because it was said that the promoter and gene are still on the same DNA fragment. This suggests that the fragment's size will be the same, regardless of what probe you detect the band with. In other words, it no longer matters what region of that fragment you make the probe to - if they are on the same fragment, you get the same result.
