Should DVD, Blu-ray, and other disc media be phased out in place of things like SD Cards?

Well, they are more reliable and faster and better but Blu-ray holds a LOT more than a modern sd card. 1 Blu-ray disk holds 25 gigs while the largest sd card holds 16 gigs. Theirs the external hardrive option but if your too rough with them they break easily. Just wait a few more years and sd cards will outshine Blu-ray by a long shot.
